SPOKANE, Wash. – Summerlike heat will hold through Saturday, but Eastern Washington drivers may want to prepare for a shift Sunday. Showers and cooler temperatures arrive September 22, bringing the region its first fall-like pattern after a week of sunshine.

According to the National Weather Service, a 30 percent chance of rain develops late Sunday morning, with daytime highs only near 71. That’s nearly 15 degrees cooler than Friday’s expected high of 88. Forecasters warn travelers along I-90 to expect wet pavement and slower traffic, especially through Spokane and into the mountain passes.

Saturday will stay sunny and warm, with a high near 87. Winds increase slightly by afternoon, though conditions remain favorable for outdoor plans. The real change comes Sunday as scattered showers move across the Inland Northwest. While rain totals look light, the cooler, damp air will mark the first real sign of fall.

By Monday skies clear again, though highs hover near 73. Nights also trend cooler, dipping into the 40s in Spokane Valley and surrounding communities. Residents should check heaters and prep gardens as cooler nights become the norm.

The week ahead holds more sunshine with highs staying in the upper 70s to low 80s, a milder but pleasant stretch. More fall fronts could follow by late week.
