Spokane Valley, WA – A Spokane Valley hotel employee says she was left shaken today after a man allegedly waved a knife during check-in, prompting a countywide search and an eventual arrest early Monday afternoon.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the disturbance began around 11:30 a.m. Monday at a hotel in the 900 block of North Sullivan Road. Deputies said a 64-year-old man allegedly pulled out a folding pocketknife and waved it in front of an employee while remarking, “Look what I can do if you don’t check me in.” The victim told deputies the behavior was “very scary,” though she noted he did not point the knife directly at her or threaten to kill her.

Witnesses also reported that a woman with the suspect claimed he had recently been discharged from a care facility for being “too dangerous,” according to deputies. Staff members deactivated the man’s room key after he left the property, and deputies established probable cause for arrest on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and harassment.

At approximately 1:05 p.m., hotel staff called again to report that the suspect had returned and was acting erratically. The employee locked herself inside an office as the man allegedly entered an employee-only area and began pounding on the door.

Deputies arrived with lights and sirens and took the man into custody near the manager’s entrance. A folding pocketknife was recovered from his pants pocket and seized as evidence. Officials said the suspect continued speaking incoherently and declined medical evaluation.

The man was booked into the Spokane County Jail on misdemeanor charges of brandishing/intimidating with a weapon, harassment–threat to harm, and first-degree criminal trespass. Deputies also contacted his family, care facility, and caseworker in hopes of securing additional support.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
