Spokane, WA – A Spokane County man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of sexually abusing two young boys under his care.

According to the Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, 32-year-old Ryan J. Herman was sentenced on Jan. 29, 2026, in Spokane County Superior Court. Herman was found guilty in November 2025 of three counts of first-degree child molestation involving victims who were ages 7 and 9 at the time of the abuse.

Court documents show that the crimes began in 2018 when Herman, a friend of the victims’ mother, allegedly molested the brothers on multiple occasions while watching them in his camper in the Medical Lake area. The abuse came to light after the victims told a family member, who then notified law enforcement.

During sentencing, prosecutors cited Herman’s prior convictions for similar offenses, arguing he qualified as a persistent sex offender. Superior Court Judge Annette Plese agreed, imposing a life sentence without parole. Herman was also ordered to have no contact with the victims and must register as a sex offender for life.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Dallas Montaño led the case, with support from victim advocates and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
