SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Residents across the Upstate should brace for a midweek shift as rain and isolated thunderstorms move into the region Wednesday, followed by a noticeable drop in temperatures by Thursday. Afternoon highs that have hovered near 80°F will fall into the upper 60s once the system passes through.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected Wednesday between late morning and early afternoon. Some storms could bring brief downpours and gusty winds before tapering off by Wednesday night.

Drivers should be cautious during the Wednesday morning and afternoon commute, especially along I-85 and U.S. 29, where reduced visibility and slick pavement may develop. The rest of the week turns calmer, with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s through Friday.

Residents are encouraged to charge devices and secure outdoor items ahead of Wednesday’s storms. Skies will clear by Thursday afternoon, setting up a mild, sunny weekend with crisp mornings in the low 50s.
