South Carolina — Fog drapes across the Upstate this morning, softening headlights along I-85 and leaving dew beading on windshields as travelers hit the road. The calm, muggy start will soon give way to warm sunshine, marking one last taste of late fall before colder air surges in for the long holiday weekend.

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg reports patchy fog through mid-morning, especially near low-lying valleys and bridges. Drivers should slow down, keep low beams on, and allow extra travel time. Once the haze lifts, skies brighten quickly, and highs climb near 70°F, about ten degrees above average for late November.

Thanksgiving Day looks picture-perfect across the Upstate—sunny, calm, and seasonable. Temperatures will top out near 52°F, with light northwest breezes keeping the air crisp but comfortable for gatherings and travel.

By Thursday night, a cold front sweeps through, sending temperatures plummeting. Friday morning lows near 23°F could bring the first widespread frost of the season. Afternoon highs rebound only to the upper 40s, a sharp contrast to the week’s earlier warmth.

The weekend remains dry with mostly sunny skies, though Saturday’s morning lows near 30°F will keep the air biting for shoppers and travelers. Sunday brings a few more clouds and the next sign of change—an approaching system that may deliver rain by late weekend.

Looking longer-term, meteorologists are watching a major Arctic front expected to push south after December 1, bringing below-normal temperatures and the potential for early winter precipitation across parts of the U.S.
