Greenville, South Carolina – Temperatures are running warmer than normal across the Upstate today, but rain is expected to move in tonight as a cold front approaches from the west, bringing changing travel conditions to major roadways.
According to the National Weather Service office in Greenville–Spartanburg, high temperatures today are expected to reach around five degrees above normal across much of the region. Dry conditions will dominate through the daytime hours, allowing for generally favorable travel along Interstate 85, Interstate 26, and surrounding highways.
Rain chances increase this evening and overnight as the front moves closer. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across much of Upstate South Carolina and northeast Georgia, with most precipitation falling during the overnight hours. Roadways including I-85, I-26, US-29, and US-76 may become wet, particularly during late-night travel.
The National Weather Service notes that light snow is possible late tonight across the higher elevations of western North Carolina, including areas near Interstate 40 and mountain routes. Any snow accumulation is expected to be light and mainly confined to elevated terrain, but brief slick spots could develop on mountain roads and passes.
Rainfall totals are expected to remain modest, and no flooding concerns have been indicated. However, drivers are advised to use caution on wet roads and be aware of reduced visibility during periods of rain, especially overnight.
Temperatures will cool behind the front, though no significant cold outbreak is expected. Conditions improve after the system moves through, with drier weather returning later Wednesday.
This weather pattern may be most noticeable for evening commuters, overnight drivers, and early-morning travelers, particularly those crossing higher elevations. Motorists are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts for any changes in precipitation type or timing.
