Greenville, SC – Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected across Upstate South Carolina and northeast Georgia today, providing ideal conditions for melting remaining ice and snow before slightly cooler weather returns midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, high temperatures today will climb into the upper 60s to low 70s across much of the region, making this one of the warmest days so far this month. The warmest readings are expected along major travel corridors such as Interstate 85, Interstate 26, US-29, and I-385, including Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and surrounding communities.
Forecasters note that this warmth will promote significant ice and snowmelt, especially in shaded yards and areas that have retained frozen patches since last week’s cold spell. Roads are expected to remain mostly dry and clear today, with no widespread travel concerns during daylight hours.
Late tonight, a small chance of light rain develops as a weak system approaches the region. Rain chances extend into Wednesday morning, mainly producing light precipitation with minimal accumulation. Any rainfall is expected to be light, but wet surfaces could briefly develop along I-26 and secondary roads during the early morning commute.
Temperatures tonight will remain mild, with lows staying well above freezing. By Wednesday afternoon, cooler air filters in, bringing temperatures back closer to seasonal norms, particularly across the mountains and foothills.
The National Weather Service emphasizes that no hazardous weather is expected, and this warm period should help reduce lingering winter impacts across the region.
Students, commuters, and outdoor workers will notice a dramatic improvement in comfort today compared to recent days, though residents should remain aware of changing conditions overnight.
Forecast updates will continue as the midweek system moves through.
