Orlando, Florida – Homeowners and growers across Central Florida have a six-hour window early Wednesday to protect sensitive plants as temperatures drop to 32 degrees, cold enough to trigger widespread frost before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Frost Advisory remains in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday for a broad stretch of east central Florida, including Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and Okeechobee counties, along with Volusia, Brevard, Indian River and St. Lucie counties. Clear skies and light winds will allow rapid cooling overnight, especially inland away from the immediate coast.

Orlando, Kissimmee, Sanford and Winter Park could see temperatures at or just below freezing in sheltered areas. Along the Space Coast, Mims, Titusville, Cocoa and Palm Bay west of I-95 face the highest frost risk inland. In Lake County, Clermont, Mount Dora and Leesburg may wake up to frost on lawns and vehicles.

Residents should cover tender plants with breathable fabric, bring potted plants inside and disconnect outdoor irrigation systems vulnerable to freezing. Farmers in Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast should monitor low-lying fields closely.

Temperatures rebound quickly after 8 a.m., but another chilly morning cannot be ruled out if clear skies persist into midweek.
