Salt Lake City, UT – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a critical fire weather alert for southern Utah, effective Wednesday through Thursday. Fire hazards will rise as gusty winds and low humidity sweep the region.
According to the NWS, winds could reach 35-45 mph, with humidity dropping as low as 6%. This combination will increase fire risks across western and southern Utah, particularly in areas where vegetation is already dry. Impacts are expected to peak on Wednesday, with southeastern Utah remaining under threat until Thursday evening.
Residents are advised to avoid campfires and activities that could ignite sparks, and to follow all local fire restrictions. As temperatures climb to near 90 degrees Wednesday, these fire-prone conditions may persist through the week, though cooler weather is forecast by Friday.
