Rock Springs, WY – Snow-covered stretches of Interstate 80 are slowing traffic early Tuesday as 1 to 3 inches of fresh accumulation and gusty winds reduce traction across southwest Wyoming through 11 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Rock Springs, Green River, Flaming Gorge and eastern Sweetwater County until 11 a.m. South Lincoln County, including Kemmerer and Cokeville, is under advisory until 8 a.m. Snow began before dawn and will continue through midmorning, with locally higher totals possible along I-80 corridors.

Winds shifting from southwest to northeast at 15 to 25 mph may create brief blowing snow, especially in open areas near Wamsutter and along exposed stretches between Rock Springs and Green River. Even minor snowfall amounts can create slick overpasses and untreated secondary roads.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation urges drivers to slow down, increase following distance and check wyoroad.info for real-time conditions. Commuters should allow extra travel time and watch for sudden reductions in visibility.

Snow tapers late this morning, but icy patches could linger into midday where temperatures remain below freezing. Additional updates will be issued if conditions worsen.
