La Crosse, WI – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across portions of southwest Wisconsin today, with a mix of freezing drizzle and snow creating slick road conditions. Drivers on Interstate 94 and surrounding roadways should exercise caution during their morning and afternoon commutes. The advisory remains active until 3 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow accumulation of up to one inch is expected, particularly north of I-94. Freezing drizzle may accompany the snow, especially during the early hours, leading to a thin glaze of ice on untreated surfaces. While widespread travel impacts are unlikely, slippery patches may develop, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and lesser-traveled roads.
Temperatures today will hover near 35°F before dropping into the high 20s tonight, with patchy fog possible after 11 p.m. The wintry weather could continue into Tuesday morning, although conditions are expected to improve throughout the day. Calm winds and mostly cloudy skies are forecast through Christmas Day, offering some relief from the slick conditions.
Looking ahead, the forecast for Christmas Day on Wednesday includes highs in the mid-30s with calm, dry weather. However, rain may return later in the week, starting Thursday night and continuing into the weekend.
Residents are urged to reduce speeds, allow extra time for travel, and check local road conditions via 511wi.gov. Be prepared for changing weather patterns throughout the holiday week.
