Phoenix, Arizona – A stretch of warmer and drier winter weather is expected across Arizona beginning Thursday, with temperatures trending above normal and precipitation chances remaining below average through early next week.

According to the National Weather Service and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, Arizona is forecast to experience above-normal temperatures from Thursday through Monday, paired with below-normal precipitation. This pattern limits storm activity across the Southwest and favors prolonged dry conditions statewide.

In the deserts, including Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, and the West Valley, daytime highs are expected to run several degrees above typical mid-January levels. Overnight lows will remain mild, reducing frost concerns across urban areas. Sunny skies and dry air will dominate, making for favorable outdoor conditions.

Central and northern Arizona, including Flagstaff, Prescott, Payson, and the Mogollon Rim, will also see a reduction in precipitation chances. While temperatures will still be cooler at elevation, readings are expected to trend above average, limiting opportunities for new snowfall. Snowpack growth across the high country may slow during this period as storm systems remain absent.

Southern Arizona, including Tucson, Sierra Vista, Nogales, and Yuma, is expected to remain dry with daytime temperatures climbing above seasonal norms. Clear skies and light winds will allow for noticeable day-to-night temperature swings, especially in rural desert areas.

Travel conditions are expected to remain favorable along major routes such as Interstate 10, Interstate 17, Interstate 40, and U.S. Highway 93, with no widespread weather-related disruptions anticipated.

While the warmer and drier pattern may be welcome for travel and outdoor activities, water managers and agricultural interests will continue monitoring long-term precipitation trends. For now, the mild and dry setup is expected to persist into early next week, with any return to more active weather likely beyond this timeframe.
