Portland, OR – Mountain travel across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington will turn slick before daybreak Monday as multiple waves of snow move into the Coast Range and Cascades.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 a.m. Monday until 4 a.m. Thursday for the North and Central Oregon Coast Range, Cascade foothills, and the Cascades of Oregon and south Washington. Foothill communities such as Rhododendron, Welches, Detroit and McKenzie Bridge can expect 2 to 5 inches of snow Monday, lighter amounts Tuesday, then another 2 to 5 inches Wednesday. Higher elevations including Government Camp, Santiam Pass and Willamette Pass could see 4 to 8 inches Monday, 2 to 5 inches Tuesday and an additional 4 to 9 inches Wednesday night.

Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will become snow-covered and icy at times. Heavier bursts Wednesday may reduce visibility and slow travel along U.S. 26, Highway 22 and Interstate 84 near higher terrain.

Drivers should carry tire chains, blankets, food and water, and check Oregon road conditions at tripcheck.com or call 511. Washington travelers can monitor WSDOT’s real-time map before departure.

Snow will continue in waves through early Thursday, with the most widespread impacts expected Wednesday into Wednesday night.
