Abingdon, VA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Morristown, Tennessee, has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of southwest Virginia, including Lee, Wise, Scott, Russell, and Washington counties, where light snow accumulations up to 2 inches are expected from 10 p.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday.

Forecasters warn that slippery roads and reduced visibility will make travel hazardous overnight and during the Friday morning commute, particularly along U.S. 58, U.S. 23, and Interstate 81 between Bristol and Abingdon.

According to the NWS, “Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning commute.” Light snow will begin late Thursday evening and taper off by mid-morning Friday, with the heaviest accumulation likely over higher elevations.

Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and check road updates through 511Virginia.org before traveling. Temperatures will remain near freezing through Friday morning, allowing patchy ice to persist even after snow ends.
