Blacksburg, VA – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg is warning of heavy rainfall across southwest Virginia beginning Wednesday morning and continuing through Thursday morning, with the potential for localized flooding in some areas.

Forecasters say the heaviest rain is expected to fall between Wednesday night and early Thursday, particularly along the Blue Ridge, where rainfall totals may exceed three inches in isolated spots.

While much of the region remains in drought conditions, the NWS cautions that areas with poor drainage or near small streams could still see minor flooding, especially in low-lying or urban locations.

Rain showers are expected to continue throughout the day, gradually tapering off late Thursday morning as drier air moves in from the west.

Motorists are urged to use caution in heavy downpours, as ponding on roads and reduced visibility are likely during the overnight hours.
