Charleston, WV – Snow-covered roads will continue to create slippery travel across far southwest Virginia overnight, with additional accumulation expected through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday for Buchanan and Dickenson counties. Storm total snowfall between 1 and 4 inches is expected, with wind gusts up to 35 mph.

Roads along U.S. 460 near Grundy, Route 83 through Clintwood and Route 80 near Breaks Interstate Park may become slick, especially on elevated and untreated surfaces. Gusty winds could blow snow across roadways, briefly lowering visibility during heavier showers.

The Monday morning and evening commutes face the greatest impact as temperatures remain cold enough for snow to stick on contact. Secondary and mountain roads will likely stay snow-covered longer than main highways.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check 511 for updated road conditions. Snow showers may linger into late Monday night before tapering, but slick spots could persist into early Tuesday while the advisory remains in effect.
