Blacksburg, VA – Steady rainfall is expected across southwest Virginia, northwest North Carolina, and southeast West Virginia overnight, with conditions improving by Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg.
Periods of rain will continue through the night, tapering off for most locations by midday Thursday (Oct. 30). However, lingering mountain showers—particularly across southeast West Virginia and northwest North Carolina—may persist into Thursday night and early Friday morning.
Forecast models show rain chances near 90% Wednesday evening, gradually decreasing to below 20% by Thursday afternoon in most cities, including Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Danville. Higher elevations such as Boone, Bluefield, and Lewisburg could see scattered light rain into Thursday night, with a 40–45% chance of precipitation remaining through midnight.
Drivers are urged to use caution during the overnight commute, as wet roads and low visibility may affect travel in mountain areas.
Drier, cooler conditions are expected to settle in by Friday, offering a brief break before the next potential system arrives this weekend.
