Blacksburg, VA – A stretch of cloudy, cool, and rainy weather is expected to continue through midweek, with the heaviest rainfall arriving Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg.

Rainfall totals will vary across the region, with around 0.25 inches north of Interstate 64 (west of Lexington) and between 1 to 1.5 inches across the Highlands of northwest North Carolina and along the Blue Ridge, where locally higher totals are possible.

The system will bring periods of light rain today and Tuesday, with steadier rain developing Wednesday into early Thursday. Temperatures will remain well below average, running 12 to 15 degrees cooler than typical late-October highs.

While widespread flooding is not expected, forecasters caution that localized flooding could occur in poor drainage or low-lying areas, especially where heavier rainfall develops.

Rain should taper off by Thursday morning, with gradual clearing expected later in the day.
