Pittsburgh, Pa. – Saturated ground and another round of heavy showers could trigger flash flooding across the Tri-State region this afternoon, with Pittsburgh and nearby communities facing the highest threat between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Level 2 (Slight Risk) alert is in effect for excessive rainfall capable of exceeding flash flood thresholds. The flood potential is centered on southwest Pennsylvania, extending into far eastern Ohio and the northern panhandle of West Virginia.
Localized downpours may cause rapid water rise, especially in low-lying areas and near small creeks and streams. Urban regions like Pittsburgh, Wheeling, and Steubenville are at greater risk due to runoff on paved surfaces. The Weather Prediction Center indicates at least a 15% chance of flash flooding within 25 miles of affected areas.
Residents are urged to monitor alerts, avoid driving through flooded roads, and ensure mobile devices are charged for emergency updates. This comes after recent storms have already saturated the ground, increasing the likelihood of fast-developing floods.
The flood risk remains through Monday evening. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen or if rainfall rates intensify.
