Pittsburgh, PA – A winter storm watch has been issued for portions of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, starting Thursday morning. The National Weather Service warns of heavy snowfall and high winds impacting travel in the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers areas including Ligonier, Ohiopyle, and Kingwood. Snowfall could reach 4 to 8 inches, with isolated higher totals possible on the tallest peaks. Wind gusts are expected to climb as high as 35 mph, compounding potential hazards.

The advisory begins Thursday morning at 7 a.m. and continues through Friday morning at 7 a.m. The most severe conditions are anticipated during the Thursday morning and evening commutes. Visibility may drop significantly due to wind-driven snow, making roads treacherous for drivers.

Residents in higher elevations, including Westmoreland and Fayette counties, should prepare for possible power outages caused by heavy snow and strong winds. Those in areas such as Canaan Valley and Terra Alta are urged to monitor road conditions and delay non-essential travel.

Officials recommend keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, including blankets, water, and a flashlight. Motorists should also carry chains or use snow tires in higher elevations where icy patches are likely.

As the storm approaches, residents are advised to follow local weather updates and alerts. Check for closures and restrictions that could affect daily routines.

Be sure to stay informed as conditions develop throughout the day. Monitor trusted weather services and plan accordingly to ensure safety.
