Medford, OR – Residents across southwest Oregon are being urged to stay alert Saturday as the National Weather Service warns of possible landspouts — brief, tornado-like spin-ups — and damaging winds. The system is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms to coastal and inland areas through the afternoon and evening.

According to NWS Medford, the threat zone stretches from Brookings and Gold Beach inland toward Medford, Roseburg, and Klamath Falls. These short-lived vortices can still cause localized damage despite their brief duration. Forecasters emphasize that high winds along the coast will increase the potential for dangerous conditions, particularly near beaches and exposed areas.

The severe weather threat coincides with a High Wind Warning along the Oregon coast, where gusts could exceed 50 mph. Officials are advising residents to secure outdoor items, avoid beaches, and monitor alerts throughout the weekend.

Beaches and open areas are expected to be hazardous Saturday, with forecasters urging caution for travelers and outdoor recreation plans.
