Columbus, Ohio – A long-duration winter storm is set to bring widespread heavy snow and ice across Ohio, southeast Indiana, and northern Kentucky beginning Saturday morning, with travel conditions expected to deteriorate sharply and remain hazardous through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Winter Storm Warnings are in effect from Saturday morning through midday Monday for much of central, southwest, and south-central Ohio, as well as parts of southeast Indiana and northern Kentucky. Snow totals of 8 to 12 inches are expected across a broad area including Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Springfield, Wilmington, Chillicothe, and Hamilton. Parts of northern Kentucky and southeast Indiana could also see a light glaze of ice near one-tenth of an inch, adding to travel concerns.
Snow is expected to overspread the region late Saturday morning, becoming heavier Saturday night and continuing through Sunday. The most significant accumulations are likely Sunday into early Monday, potentially impacting the Monday morning commute. Major routes including I-70, I-71, I-75, I-74, and I-275 are likely to become snow-covered and slick, with reduced visibility at times.
State transportation officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel, prepare emergency kits, and monitor road conditions at ohgo.com, 511in.org, or goky.ky.gov. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect through Monday, and additional advisories may be issued as the storm continues to unfold.
