Wilmington, OH – The grass crunches underfoot and windshields sparkle in the first hard frost of the season this Friday morning across southwest Ohio. Temperatures dipped near 30°F, triggering a Freeze Warning from the National Weather Service in Wilmington through 9 a.m. EDT.

Residents across central and southern Ohio, northern Kentucky, and eastern Indiana woke to a biting chill that effectively ends the growing season for many rural areas. Gardeners and homeowners are urged to protect sensitive plants, disconnect hoses, and drain sprinkler systems to prevent early cold damage.

By late morning, sunshine begins to cut through the haze, and highs will climb to around 57°F — a crisp but comfortable turnaround after the frosty start. Winds stay calm and skies remain mostly clear into Saturday, though clouds will gradually return ahead of the next system.

Saturday brings increasing clouds and a slight chance of rain after dark. Sunday continues mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 50s and light southeast winds, marking the start of a milder but damp stretch into next week.

Rain chances climb again Monday and Tuesday, with daytime highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Trick-or-treaters next Friday may enjoy a dry, cool evening — perfect for costumes layered under jackets.

Across Ohio, the talk has already shifted from frost to flurries. While no snow is expected yet, the seasonal shift is undeniable — winter’s edge is creeping closer with each crisp sunrise.
