Wilmington, OH – A wet end to the week is on the way for southwest Ohio as another round of steady, soaking rain moves in early Friday. The National Weather Service in Wilmington reports that rainfall totals between 1 AM Friday and 7 AM Saturday could approach or exceed one inch, based on 13 forecast model solutions.

According to meteorologists, the average model output (shown in black on the rainfall graph) suggests a consistent rise in accumulated rainfall throughout Friday, with heavier pockets developing by late evening. A red reference line marks 0.5 inches, which the NWS expects will fall around midnight Friday night.

Although widespread flooding is not anticipated, heavier rainfall pockets may cause quick rises in area waterways, especially in locations prone to poor drainage. Low-lying and flood-sensitive areas around Wilmington, Xenia, Washington Court House, and nearby rural communities may experience minor impacts if rainfall rates intensify.

Residents should monitor updated forecasts Friday and use caution near creeks and small streams as water levels respond to the incoming rain.
