CINCINNATI, Ohio – Chilly air sweeping into the Ohio Valley could bring the first widespread frost and freeze of the season by Thursday morning, threatening crops, gardens, and outdoor plumbing across southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky, and southeast Indiana.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures dipping to around 35°F in low-lying and valley areas. A Freeze Watch will follow from late Thursday night through Friday morning, as readings could drop as low as 31°F.
Communities including Cincinnati, Hamilton, Florence, Middletown, Oxford, and Georgetown may see frost forming on rooftops and lawns before dawn Thursday. Deeper cold overnight into Friday could bring a hard freeze to parts of Butler, Warren, and Clermont counties, as well as Boone and Kenton counties in Kentucky.
Residents are urged to cover or move tender plants indoors and drain outdoor sprinkler systems to prevent damage. The weather service warns that unprotected outdoor plumbing could freeze, and sensitive vegetation may not survive the cold snap.
Frost and freeze alerts remain in effect through Friday morning, with milder conditions expected to return by the weekend.
