Wilmington, OH – The National Weather Service in Wilmington, OH, reported an unseasonably cold morning across the region Wednesday, with temperatures dipping into the low 40s in some locations. This is unusually cool for mid-August, catching many residents off guard.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in parts of Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio reached as low as 41°F in Urbana, OH. Other cold spots included Ashley, OH, with 42°F, and several areas in Indiana and Kentucky recording temperatures in the upper 40s.

These chilly conditions were more typical of late fall, rather than summer. The cool weather resulted from a combination of clear skies and calm winds overnight, which allowed temperatures to plummet. Such conditions are not common in August but can happen when cool Canadian air dips southward.

The National Weather Service continues to monitor the situation and advises residents to prepare for potential temperature swings in the coming days as summer transitions into fall.
