West Yellowstone, Montana – Snow will begin stacking up on southwest Montana’s mountain passes overnight, creating slick and snow-covered roads by the Tuesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, Winter Weather Advisories take effect between 11 p.m. Monday and 2 a.m. Tuesday across the Ruby Mountains, Southern Beaverhead Range, Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and the Rocky Mountain Front. Snow totals of 2 to 6 inches are expected in most mountain areas, with up to 10 inches possible on higher peaks. Lower elevations along the Hi-Line and adjacent plains could see 1 to 4 inches by Tuesday evening.

Targhee Pass, Monida Pass, Raynolds Pass and areas near Big Sky and West Yellowstone will likely see snow-packed roads early Tuesday. Along the Continental Divide, including Marias Pass, Rogers Pass and MacDonald Pass, blowing snow may reduce visibility at times.

Motorists should slow down and prepare for winter driving conditions, especially on bridges and exposed stretches. Check Montana 511 or the MDT Road Report before heading out. Advisories remain in effect through late Tuesday afternoon and evening, and additional updates are possible if snowfall intensifies.
