Great Falls, MT – The National Weather Service in Great Falls has issued a High Wind Watch for much of southwest Montana, including the Gallatin Valley, Madison River Valley, and parts of Beaverhead and Western Madison counties below 6,000 feet, effective Saturday morning through Saturday evening.
Forecasters expect south winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 60 mph, especially along the Interstate 90 corridor between Bozeman and Whitehall, and in open areas near Dillon, Ennis, and Norris.
According to the National Weather Service, these winds may move debris, damage property, and knock out power. Travel could be hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles on exposed roadways. Any afternoon showers could further enhance wind gusts to the surface.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, monitor forecast updates, and use caution when driving, especially near mountain passes and open valleys. Winds are expected to ease later Saturday night.
