SPRINGFIELD, MO – Drivers across southwestern Missouri should be prepared for patchy fog and areas of freezing fog developing late Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield.

The fog is expected mainly along and west of Highway 65, where visibilities could drop below one mile at times. The NWS warns that freezing fog may form in some spots, leading to slick or icy elevated surfaces and bridges by early morning.

While the fog may not be dense everywhere, forecasters note it “doesn’t have to be to be impactful,” especially if temperatures remain near or below freezing. Motorists traveling through areas west of Springfield, including Branson, Bolivar, and Nevada, should allow extra travel time and use headlights when visibility decreases.

Visibility is expected to fluctuate through early morning before gradually improving after sunrise Saturday.
