Springfield, MO – The final week of October will bring a shift to colder, windier weather across southwest Missouri, according to the National Weather Service in Springfield.

Forecasters say light fog will develop overnight, followed by increasing clouds and cooler temperatures Monday. The main weather impacts arrive Tuesday and Wednesday, when a strong fall system sweeps across the region, bringing rain, gusty winds, and sharply cooler air.

Rain chances rise to 60–80% Tuesday and 50–70% Wednesday, with afternoon highs only in the upper 40s to mid-50s by midweek. Wind gusts could reach 30–40 mph, creating blustery conditions for outdoor activities and travel.

By Thursday, skies will begin to clear, but much colder air will settle in. Overnight lows could drop into the mid-30s, leading to potential frost or light freeze conditions across parts of the Ozarks by late week.

Forecasters recommend residents secure outdoor decorations, especially Halloween setups, before Tuesday’s winds increase. Gardeners should also be prepared to protect sensitive plants later in the week if frost alerts are issued.

Despite the midweek chill, sunshine and milder weather are expected to return heading into next weekend.
