Springfield, MO – Residents across southern Missouri and southeast Kansas should prepare for a chilly night ahead, as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield has issued a Frost Advisory from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Friday.
According to the NWS, temperatures could drop as low as 29 degrees, leading to widespread frost formation. The advisory covers areas along and south of Interstate 44, including Springfield, Joplin, Branson, West Plains, and neighboring communities across the Ozarks.
The cold snap is expected to affect Cherokee County, Kansas, and multiple Missouri counties, including Greene, Jasper, Christian, Taney, Howell, and Barry. The agency warns that sensitive vegetation could be damaged or killed if left uncovered during the early morning hours.
Residents are advised to cover outdoor plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and take precautions to protect vulnerable crops and gardens.
This early frost marks one of the first widespread freezes of the fall season, signaling cooler weather trends heading into November.
