Springfield, MO – A sharp cold snap will hit southwest Missouri this weekend, bringing freezing temperatures that could damage outdoor plants and vegetation.
According to the US National Weather Service Springfield, a Freeze Watch is in effect from late Saturday night through Sunday morning. Forecast lows are expected to range from the upper 20s to low 30s across much of the region.
Any sensitive or uncovered vegetation will be at risk of dying, and residents are urged to cover plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and disconnect garden hoses ahead of the overnight freeze.
The coldest readings are expected in rural valleys and low-lying areas, where frost and ice will be widespread by early Sunday morning. Afternoon highs on Sunday should rebound into the 50s under sunny skies.
This marks one of the first widespread freezes of the fall season for southwest Missouri, signaling the start of colder November weather ahead.
