Springfield, Missouri – Heavy rain is triggering dangerous flash flooding across southwest Missouri tonight, threatening low-lying roads and neighborhoods from Springfield to Pineville through early Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, two separate Flash Flood Warnings have been issued. The first, covering Christian, Douglas, Greene, Stone, and Webster counties, is active until 2:15 a.m. CDT. A second warning for McDonald County remains in effect until 1:45 a.m. CDT. Radar estimates show 1 to 5 inches of rainfall already, with 1 to 2 inches per hour still possible.

In Springfield and Nixa, high water could impact streets near Galloway and Route 60. In rural areas like Crane and Chadwick, creeks may overflow rapidly. In McDonald County, towns including Anderson, Noel, and South West City are facing flash floods near Big Sugar Creek, with several low-water crossings like Highway U and Buzzard Glory Road expected to be impassable.

Drivers should avoid travel in affected areas tonight and never attempt to cross water-covered roads. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains critical advice, especially with flooding harder to detect after dark.

Flood alerts could expand if rain continues through sunrise. Stay updated and check roads before heading out Tuesday morning.
