Springfield, MO – Southwest Missouri is in for a dramatic temperature swing this weekend as a strong cold front sweeps through the region Saturday evening, bringing gusty winds and bitter cold to start next week.
According to the US National Weather Service Springfield, today will be sunny and mild with highs in the low 70s, followed by another warm day Saturday before the front arrives. Winds will shift from the southwest to northwest late Saturday, gusting 20–35 mph as colder air rushes in.
By Sunday, highs will struggle to reach 40°F, with wind chills in the 20s throughout the day. Monday morning will be even colder, with lows in the teens to low 20s and wind chills as low as 8°F in some areas. Forecasters describe it as the coldest air of the season so far, following several weeks of unseasonably mild conditions.
The cold snap will be brief, with temperatures moderating by Tuesday — though fire weather concerns could return as winds strengthen and humidity drops.
Residents are urged to bundle up for the early workweek and secure outdoor items ahead of strong weekend winds.
