Grand Rapids, MI – Snow showers will persist across the area through Saturday, with icy roads and frigid temperatures creating challenging conditions for travelers. Residents are urged to plan for slow travel and limited visibility, especially during evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s high will peak near 21 degrees, with a 40% chance of snow showers before 1 p.m. Light southwest winds of 5 to 9 mph will add to the chill, making conditions feel much colder. Friday night could bring additional snow showers after midnight, with temperatures dropping to 12 degrees and gusts reaching up to 24 mph.
Saturday’s forecast remains cold, with a high near 32 degrees and a 40% chance of snow showers continuing throughout the day. Winds will shift westward at 9 to 14 mph, increasing the risk of blowing snow and reduced visibility in open areas.
By Sunday, partly sunny skies will bring brief relief, with temperatures climbing to 25 degrees. However, colder overnight lows in the teens will keep conditions frigid into Monday. Another round of snow showers is expected early next week, starting Monday afternoon, with highs reaching 34 degrees.
Residents should take precautions, including bundling up against wind chills that could dip below zero and using extra caution while driving. Road conditions on major highways, including I-196 and US-131, may become slick, especially during early morning and late-night hours.
