Alexandria, La. – Central Louisiana could experience its first 100-degree day of the year Tuesday as dangerous heat spreads across the region, bringing elevated health risks and the potential for infrastructure strain.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, there’s a 75% chance Alexandria hits triple digits on Tuesday, with a 55% chance in Lake Charles and 20% in Lafayette. Heat risks will begin increasing Monday and persist through midweek, with “major” health impacts expected Tuesday, especially for those without access to cooling or hydration.

Cities like Leesville, Oakdale, and New Iberia are included in areas forecast for “moderate to major” heat risk, with daytime highs between 96–100°F and little to no overnight relief. Hydration and access to air conditioning will be critical, particularly for children, older adults, and outdoor workers.

Residents should limit time outside during peak heat, drink plenty of fluids, and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. Power grids, roadways, and health systems may feel the strain as the region bakes under prolonged high temperatures.

Heat alerts remain in effect through Wednesday, and additional advisories may follow if conditions worsen.
