Low clouds hang over Calcasieu Parish this morning, and the air feels thick at 66 degrees. South winds are already gusting near 20 mph, pushing humid Gulf air inland as drivers move along I-10.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, skies remain mostly cloudy today with highs climbing to 76 degrees. Winds from the south at 10 to 15 mph may gust higher this afternoon. While rain is not expected, visibility could become an issue later tonight.

Widespread dense fog is likely developing between 10 p.m. and early morning, especially near waterways and low-lying roads. Drivers along I-10, Highway 14, and near the Calcasieu River should prepare for sharply reduced visibility after dark. Slow down and use low-beam headlights if traveling late.

Friday begins with patchy fog before sunshine returns. Highs jump to 80 degrees Friday and hold near 80 through Saturday and Sunday. It will feel more like late March than February, a steady stretch of spring warmth across southwest Louisiana and into southeast Texas.

Nights remain mild, with lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Early next week stays warm and mostly dry, with highs near 79 Monday and upper 70s into midweek. No major cold snap is on the horizon, and longer-range guidance favors above-normal temperatures continuing through the first week of March.

If you’re heading out late tonight, be ready for sudden drops in visibility. Seeing fog develop in your area? Let us know.
