Southwest Louisiana Tornado Confirmed: 2-Mile Path Through Sulphur

Survey shows 80 mph winds and a 2-mile path through Sulphur’s Maplewood area.

Sulphur, LA – The National Weather Service in Lake Charles confirmed that a weak tornado touched down in Sulphur late Saturday night, leaving behind a two-mile path of damage but no reported injuries.

According to the NWS survey released Sunday evening, the EF-0 tornado struck between 11:45 p.m. and 11:48 p.m. CDT on October 25, producing peak winds estimated at 80 miles per hour and a maximum width of 50 yards.

Meteorologists said the tornado first touched down near Palermo Drive and Evangeline Street, moving east through McMurry Park and into the Maplewood neighborhood. Several homes sustained minor roof and fence damage, along with downed trees and power lines.

The tornado continued over the Lowe’s area before crossing Interstate 10 and dissipating near Pete Manena Road and Bayou D’Inde Road, where additional tree damage was observed.

The Lake Charles NWS office said no injuries or fatalities were reported, and additional damage surveys may still be conducted.

Residents are encouraged to review safety plans as the region remains in its late fall severe weather period.
