Dodge City, Kansas – Snowfall is expected to impact travel across southwest Kansas on Friday, Jan. 9, as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from early morning through the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST Friday, Jan. 9 (5 a.m. to 6 p.m. MST) for much of southwest Kansas.

Snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are forecast across Hamilton, Kearny, Finney, Hodgeman, Haskell, Gray, Ford, Meade, and Clark counties. Communities potentially impacted include Dodge City, Garden City, Cimarron, Jetmore, Meade, Ashland, Satanta, Sublette, Lakin, and Syracuse.

Officials warn that snowfall may lead to slippery and hazardous road conditions, particularly during the Friday morning and evening commutes, Jan. 9. Even modest snowfall totals can significantly reduce traction on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

The National Weather Service advises drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Travel impacts may vary across the region depending on snowfall intensity and road treatment.

For the latest road conditions across Kansas, motorists are encouraged to call 511 before traveling.
