Dodge City, Kan. – Drivers across southwest and northwest Kansas are waking up to dense fog this morning, with visibility in some areas dropping to just a quarter mile. The National Weather Service has issued multiple Dense Fog Advisories, urging motorists to use caution through mid-morning.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Dodge City and Goodland, advisories remain in effect until 9 a.m. in southwest counties including Ford, Finney, Hodgeman, and Stevens, and until 10 a.m. further north in Decatur, Graham, Norton, Sheridan, Gove, and into Red Willow County, Nebraska.

Communities from Dodge City to Garden City, Liberal, Scott City, and Wakeeney are expected to see the lowest visibility. In northwest Kansas and parts of southwest Nebraska, including McCook and Oberlin, fog could linger slightly longer, with dangerous travel conditions expected on U.S. Highways 83, 50, and Interstate 70.

Officials urge drivers to reduce speeds, keep headlights on low beam, and allow extra distance between vehicles. Morning commuters, especially those traveling rural roads, should anticipate sudden changes in visibility and allow for extra travel time.

Fog should begin to lift by late morning as temperatures rise, but patchy low clouds may persist in some valleys. Additional advisories are possible if conditions redevelop overnight.
