Dodge City, KS – Southwest Kansas residents should prepare for windy and stormy conditions heading into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Dodge City.

Forecasters say gusty south winds will develop Friday and Saturday, with speeds reaching 35 to 40 mph. Temperatures will also remain above normal, climbing into the upper 80s both days.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front will move through the region on Sunday, October 5, bringing scattered thunderstorms and a sharp drop in temperatures. Highs are expected to fall into the 60s by early next week, marking a return to more seasonal conditions.

Wind and storm activity could impact travel and outdoor plans. The weather service advises caution for drivers on east-west roads, especially high-profile vehicles, due to strong crosswinds Friday and Saturday. Scattered thunderstorms Sunday could bring localized heavy rain, lightning, and brief strong wind gusts.

Looking ahead, temperatures are forecast to remain cooler and more comfortable into midweek, with highs in the 60s and 70s. Intermittent chances for showers continue into Tuesday and Wednesday.
