Dodge City, KS – Residents across southwest Kansas should prepare for a cold night and possible frost early Tuesday morning as temperatures fall into the low to mid-30s, according to the US National Weather Service Dodge City.

Forecasters report that gusty northwest winds will diminish overnight, allowing temperatures to drop sharply west of a line from Hays to Coldwater. There is an 80% or greater chance that readings will reach the low to mid-30s from Ness City to Dodge City and Meade.

The best chance for frost will occur in areas where winds calm before sunrise. Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants and take precautions to protect outdoor vegetation and garden equipment.

According to the weather service, skies will remain mostly clear, contributing to rapid overnight cooling. Tuesday will see a sunny but cool start, with afternoon highs recovering into the 50s.

This early-season chill marks one of the first widespread frost events of the fall across western Kansas.
