Dodge City, Kan. – Overnight storms are expected to bring heavy rain and thunder to parts of western and central Kansas late Friday into early Saturday, with the strongest storms favoring eastern counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the first round will begin around 10 p.m. Friday near Ellis and Trego counties before pushing southeast. Most of the activity is expected to remain east of Highway 183, where marginally severe storms with strong winds and hail could develop between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Saturday.

Communities including Hays, Great Bend, and Pratt face the greatest chance of late-night storms. Drivers along U.S. 183 and I-70 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads overnight. Power outages are unlikely but possible where stronger cells develop.

A second round of scattered storms may redevelop late Saturday night into early Sunday, though the threat is expected to be weaker and more isolated.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts for potential watches or warnings and to avoid travel during peak storm activity overnight. Additional advisories may be issued if storms intensify.
