Dodge City, Kan. – Residents across western Kansas should be prepared for severe storms late this afternoon as a marginal risk for severe weather develops from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Strong winds and hail are the primary threats with any storm that manages to strengthen.
According to the National Weather Service office in Dodge City, the greatest concern centers on areas west of U.S. 283, including Garden City, Scott City, Liberal, and Ulysses. Storms are expected to form by late afternoon, pushing eastward into the evening hours.
Motorists on highways including U.S. 50 and U.S. 83 should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, including reduced visibility from heavy rain and strong crosswinds. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and monitor NOAA weather radio or trusted local outlets for updates.
While the risk level is categorized as marginal, isolated severe storms may still produce hail large enough to damage vehicles and crops. Gusty winds could also down small tree limbs or cause brief power outages.
The storm threat should diminish by mid-evening, though additional updates may be issued if activity lingers into the night.
