Southwest Kansas – Unseasonably warm conditions are expected today and Saturday across southwest Kansas, including Dodge City. Temperatures will soar to the upper 80s and 90s, pushing toward record highs that could reach 95°F in some locations, particularly along US-50 and US-56.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s highs will reach 91°F, with Dodge City facing temperatures that could challenge a record high of 95°F, set in 2020. Saturday promises to be even hotter, with some areas in the region approaching 93°F or more. Residents should limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day and stay hydrated.

Drivers along US-50 and US-56 should be aware that heat can cause increased tire pressure and strain on vehicle engines. Ensure that your vehicle’s cooling system is working properly and consider traveling during cooler morning hours to avoid mechanical issues.

The heat will begin to ease slightly on Sunday, with temperatures dropping to a high of 73°F, providing some relief before another mild warm-up next week. Expect sunny skies for the entire extended forecast, with lows dipping into the 40s by Sunday night.

Looking ahead, temperatures on Columbus Day will be around 70°F, continuing through midweek. Those planning outdoor activities should take advantage of cooler weather early in the week before another warm spell hits by Thursday.
