Dodge City, KS – Residents across southwest Kansas are being warned to prepare for a hard freeze tonight as temperatures plunge into the teens and lower 20s by early Monday morning. According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, light winds and clear skies will create ideal conditions for strong overnight cooling.

Low temperatures are expected to reach around 17°F in Hays and Ness City, 19°F in Garden City and Ulysses, and 20°F in Dodge City and Syracuse. The coldest readings are likely in river valleys, which may dip a few degrees below surrounding hilltops.

Officials urge residents to protect outdoor pipes, sensitive plants, and pets from the freezing temperatures. The NWS notes that this will be one of the coldest nights of the fall so far, though a warming trend is expected to follow — with highs rebounding into the 70s by Tuesday.

Motorists should also be cautious of frost or ice on windshields and bridges during the Monday morning commute.
