Dodge City, KS – A Flood Warning is in effect Tuesday morning for much of Scott, Lane, and the far western portion of Ness County after heavy rainfall overnight. The National Weather Service (NWS) said the alert remains active until 10 a.m.
According to the NWS Dodge City office, radar estimated widespread rainfall totals between 2 and 3 inches across the warned areas, with localized amounts exceeding 4 inches. Numerous thunderstorms repeatedly passed over the same locations late Monday night into early Tuesday, compounding flood risks.
Officials warn residents that water could quickly collect in low-lying areas, creating hazardous travel conditions. Some rural county roads and highways may become impassable. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded areas, as even shallow water can be dangerous.
Communities including Scott City, Dighton, and parts of Ness City remain under the warning, which covers both farmland and small towns. Emergency managers stress that flooding may develop quickly, particularly in poor-drainage areas.
The NWS recommends staying alert for updated forecasts and avoiding travel if floodwaters block roadways.
