Dodge City, KS – Residents across southwest Kansas are dealing with one more day of chilly conditions as a cold Canadian air mass remains firmly in place before a noticeable warm-up arrives early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the cold air settled into the region Saturday night and will continue to grip southwest Kansas through Sunday. While winds will shift to the south today, forecasters say it will not bring warmer air, as the circulation will continue to recycle the existing cold air mass.

High temperatures Sunday are expected to range from the upper 20s to low 40s across much of the region. Forecast highs include around 31 degrees in Dodge City, 34 in Ness City, 36 in Gove, 37 in Garden City and Scott City, and near 29 degrees in Pratt, Hutchinson, and Medicine Lodge. Slightly warmer readings are expected farther southwest, with highs approaching the upper 40s to low 50s near Elkhart and Springfield.

Forecasters say this cold pattern will finally loosen its grip on Monday, allowing temperatures to slowly recover. A more significant warm-up is expected by Tuesday and Wednesday, when afternoon highs are forecast to climb back into the 60s, with some areas nearing 70 degrees, including around Elkhart.

The prolonged cold may still impact outdoor plans and early-morning travel, especially during the overnight hours when temperatures dip closer to freezing.

Residents are encouraged to dress appropriately for cold conditions today and remain mindful of changing weather as temperatures rebound quickly midweek.
