Dodge City, KS – Residents across southwest Kansas should prepare for potentially strong thunderstorms late Saturday, September 13, with the risk of severe weather near the Colorado border.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, storms are expected to develop Saturday evening and continue overnight. Some storms may become severe, producing strong gusty winds and isolated hail. Heavy rainfall is also likely across the region, which could lead to ponding of water in poor drainage and low-lying areas.
Forecast models show precipitation chances ranging from 60% to 80% across much of western Kansas Saturday night. The Weather Prediction Center has also placed parts of the area under a marginal risk for excessive rainfall, meaning localized flooding is possible.
Communities including Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal, and surrounding counties may experience weather-related travel disruptions, particularly on rural roads and highways prone to flooding. The National Weather Service urges residents to monitor forecasts, avoid driving through flooded areas, and remain alert to changing conditions.
Storms are expected to taper off by early Sunday morning, but officials caution that lingering wet conditions could affect weekend travel and outdoor plans.
