OMAHA, Neb. – Thunderstorms are drenching eastern Nebraska and western Iowa late Sunday, with locally heavy rain expected to continue through Monday morning. Roads across Omaha, Council Bluffs, and along I-80 could see ponding and reduced visibility as downpours persist overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, scattered storms will taper early Monday but brief heavy rainfall remains possible, especially south of I-80. A few isolated thunderstorms may redevelop by afternoon, though skies should clear by Tuesday with sunshine and highs in the upper 60s.
Drivers are urged to slow down on rain-slick roads and avoid flooded intersections. Minor flooding could affect low-lying areas and small streams across Pottawattamie, Mills, and Harrison counties in Iowa, as well as Douglas and Sarpy counties in Nebraska. Winds will remain light, but gusts near 20 mph could accompany stronger storms.
Conditions improve Tuesday with sunny skies and calmer weather through midweek. Another slight chance of storms returns Thursday night, followed by a warmup into the low 80s by the weekend.
